When it comes to dressing for work, which we all do and or have done at some point in our lives, it should be an experience that isn’t daunting, boring, or dull. But for most of us women out there, we narrowly miss the ‘fun’ target when it comes to maintaining excitement in our work wardrobes. We also might struggle with the ‘I have one wardrobe for work and one wardrobe for the weekend’ dilemma. And that way of thinking makes it real tough when it comes to making the most of what’s in our closet.

Work Outfits….to Be, Or not to Be, Boring?
I get it. When there are jobs that require women to wear more formal suiting, such as a job in law, or well, that might be as far as it goes…a suit must be something to be taken seriously. Otherwise for the 90+% of us out there who don’t work in a law office, let me tell you, there are plenty of fun alternatives to the boring work outfit.
Work outfits shouldn’t have to stand in a category all their own. You should feel as though you can mix and match pieces within a work outfit with pieces in your weekend wardrobe too. Can a blazer be mixed with a tee and jeans and worn to brunch? Yes, it can! Can you rock a patterned pant with a chambray denim top and flats? Sure you can! And with that, there are four potential outfits you can create just by mixing and matching alllllll the pieces you have. Not just quarantining your work wear into the Monday through Friday part of your closet.
My Stylist Insider Tip When it Comes to Dressing for Work
As heartedly stated above, I am a big believer in using your entire closet for a Monday thru Sunday type of wear. Rather than just thinking about a piece you buy as a categorical ‘work’ piece, think about how you might be able to mix it into an outfit that you can get some casual, fun wear out of too!
Stick to a simple pattern and you won’t regret it. Gingham, a pattern I love because I see the mixing/matching potential, is a pattern that has a basic two color combo. These two gingham outfits work well as both work and casual pieces that you can mix and match.
Why Gingham Outfits Work as Work Wear Pieces
Prints and patterns are hard to pull off if you’re working in a serious business environment. Unless, that is, you’re talking gingham. Gingham outfit pieces for work are that, I can kind of get away with a print that’s not a statement print, type of piece. Gingham prints within an outfit are both nonchalant yet bold. How can that be? Gingham prints by nature are geometrical. Which lends itself to being functional and stylish. When I wear both the gingham suit and the gingham dress, I feel elevated, like, I’m ready for a business meeting elevated, but I also feel super, super stylish. Not trendy stylish.
That’s the other bonus about gingham. Gingham outfits work as both ‘on trend‘ and ‘evergreen‘. The gingham print has stood the test of time and therefore, becomes a classic print that you can know and trust as being a great work wear option. Yet time and time again, gingham is on the streets and down the runways. Thus, on trend. Therefore, we shall conclude this style lesson with…wear gingham, trust in gingham, go with gingham, for a safe work outfit bet! You get me?
