Seattle City Guide – The Best Places to Eat in Seattle

Food pictures of local Seattle eateries overwhelm my iPhone.  Not in the overwhelming, I have three million things to do and five minutes to do them, sort of way.  But overwhelming in the, my senses cannot get enough and I must have more, sort of way.  Despite the daily rainfalls and cool temperatures of the Northwest, I managed to both start and end my trip by way of my mouth.  It’s an ever changing but wonderful landscape of eateries in Seattle.

Creamy cheeses, crafty cocktails, pearly oysters shucked in front of you fresh from the Pacific, trout so tender it melts in your already watering mouth.  When starting off on the right food you can encounter some of the best places to eat in Seattle.  There is such a wholesome feeling of escaping from your already great city to a mutual city that has its own great food movement to discover, again and again, why you love food so much in the first place.  This was a lesson in food appreciation.  Here are some of the best places to eat in Seattle, broken down by food category.

What used to be Chef Matt Dillion’s restaurant, bar Sajor, turned into the amazing taco eatery, Copal.    Located in Pioneer Square, this colorful bar/restaurant is a gem of a place to eat in Seattle.  It’s a Latin-American inspired Pioneer Square is a great place to walk around, grab a few drinks, both at a wine bar or a coffee shop, prior to heading over to Copal.  Not to be missed?  Their happy hour, the watermelon salad, a michelada, and the poblano tacos.

In the Capital Hill/Downtown area of Seattle, you’ll find the open seating cafe and bar, Oddfellows.  You know that commercial with Tony the Tiger when he says, it’s grrrreat?  Well, that’s how I felt about Oddfellows.  This was certainly one of my favorite places to eat in Seattle!  Lovely inside, with open concept restaurant seating and first come first serve bar seating.  We tried the beignets and the Blanche, a cocktail with brovo rose geranium, bubbles, and grapefruit and it was a crafty treat!

Oddfellows Cafe + Bar || Downtown/Capital Hill 1525 10th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122

This darling spot is a newer eatery and is run by the same guys who have taken on The Whale Wins and The Walrus & The Carpenter.  In other words, they know what they’re doing.  This is a gem of a place to eat in Seattle, for both their visual aesthetics and their oysters.

In the downtown/Pike’s Place Market area you’ll find the small bistro cafe, Le Pichet, tucked away on 1st Avenue.  This outdoor/indoor cafe is a perfect spot to have a small Parisian style breakfast or lunch.  Having a large affinity for French cafes and all things France, this place is perfectly Parisian.  They are known for their baguette sandwiches and light fare.  This is a great place to eat in Seattle when you want to enjoy some wonderful charcuterie, a salad, and light bites.

Le Pichet || 1933 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101

Bastille || French dinner + Brunch, Happy Hour

If you want French food that will drive your mouth bananas, then please go here.  Bastille is in Ballard, which is a great little sub-clave of Seattle.  In Ballard, you’ll find a hipsterish vibe, great shopping, and amazing places to find great food.  At Bastille, they have a bread cutting station where they serve up the yummiest French bread. Go for dinner and order the shaved Brussels sprout salad and their Poisson Du Jour, which seriously, was the most tender trout.  Bastille has a great happy hour, dinner, and brunch.

Bastille || 5307 Ballard Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107

Delancy || Some of the Best Wood Fired Pizza

If you're an avid book lover, read the story about Delancey, a fabulous pizza joint in Ballard, outside of Seattle. Read the story of how the book cover was chosen on Art in the Find. Click to read!

Not too long ago, chef and writer, Molly Wisenberg opened up a restaurant in Ballard named Delancey.  It’s a small little “wood-fired pizza joint” that has the one of the most comfortable homey feels.  This is a must try for dinner and one of my favorite places to eat in Seattle.  The salads and pizza are heavenly and made in the small quarters of their restaurant.  Next to Delancy, you will find that if you have to wait for a table or just want to grab a craft cocktail, you can hit up, Essex.  A craft cocktail & beer bar, you’ll be able to enjoy a great drink while you wait.

Delancy || 1415 NW 70th St, Seattle, WA 98117

Ballard Annex || Oyster Bar

Our last stop making it on the list of great places to eat in Seattle was on our way back from a busy day.  The Whale Wins is a seafood forward restaurant that also has great options for chicken and beef.   We couldn’t have had a more wonderful meal in a cottagey-style setting.  The table next to us gabbed and gabbed like they had known each other for years but had just met that evening in fact.   We had a wonderful whole fish-skin on dish, great rosé and amazing dessert.
