My Tokyo Packing List - What I've got in my carry on for 8 days
I just finished packing for our 8 day family trip to Tokyo. Oh, I love me a good packing list. I shared why I love taking a carry on and love to rework all my outfits using my bottoms as my base to make sure that everything that makes in it my bag, gets worn multiple times on my trip. That’s the beauty of this jenga version of packing, I’m a maximalist-dresser, minimalist packer. But….I will caveat with this…I am taking another carry on size bag and checking it. Why? Because I have a few items on my wish list to purchase over there. That will be in another favorites from Tokyo post when I get back home…stay tuned.

So for now, my Tokyo packing list and my outfits, at least how I think I’m going to wear them for now. I’ll take photos of my outfits by day and recap the outfits I actually wore. Here’s what I’m thinking…
How I Thought Through What I Wanted to Pack
I set aside a handful of bottoms and religiously check the weather. When it’s about 3 days out I start putting the outfits together. I set a ton of stuff on my clothing rack, way more than I actually pack, because often some pieces easily go together and sometimes things don’t. I use pieces that make me feel comfortable, and contain a mix of classics, neutrals, favorites, and the a few trendy and some “me” pieces. When I find that there is a piece (my wool green jacket…that I didn’t take) that doesn’t seem to want to work with everything, I forgo it and move on. It’s why having multiples of things works at the beginning and narrowing it down through the try on process is so effective. I add “coolness” to my outfits with my layers (when it’s cold) and keep my accessories and shoes textured but on repeat.
The End Process & Result
I take pictures of my outfits each time I create an outfit (or make an outfit reel about the outfits, haha), until I’ve created 3, sometimes 4, just to be safe. Then move on to another bottom and repeat the process again, until I have a total of the # of bottoms / by the number of days of travel (example: 9 days of travel = 3-4 bottoms). When I’m done, I have one more day of outfits than the days I’m traveling = 10 outfits. If you want my little formula I’ve made for myself, you can download my Outfit Planning Guide right here.
When I get back from Tokyo I’ll post what outfits I wore and my favorite places I shopped and ate. xx, Conni
