Style School: How I'm Styling My Wide Leg Jeans
On Instagram, I started a style series called STYLE SCHOOL, where I’ll be walking through how I style something, inserting some nuggets of style wisdom (fit, proportion, or just heck with it, doing what you want to do with a piece) to give you the confidence to start styling things yourself, and go from style 1.0 (how do I tuck, fold, etc..) to style 2.0 (why not put those mismatched shoes with that bag..).
Style School, Lesson 1: Wide leg jeans
I’m styling my Snacks (my Mother Denim) high rise pleated wide leg jeans. I’ve had these for a few years now and still get a lot of wear out of them. You may be able to find them on Poshmark now but last I checked they aren’t available from the brand anymore. You can use a pair you have to style some outfits for everyday. So here we go!
OUTFIT 1: Casual
Where am I wearing this? Coffee, running errands, Dr. appointment, and school pick up. This is an outfit 2.0 where the focus is on monochromatic, fun and playful. No need to worry about how perfectly everything fits. It just says, on the go, but cohesive because of the lighter shoe & bag, and matching shirt and jean. It’s easy, it’s comfortable, it works.
Shirt - Frank & Eileen - linen shirt (part of the Tuscany get away set) - size down or true size
Jeans - Mother Snacks Push Pop Pleated Wide Leg Jeans (poshmark) - true size
Bag - Miko tote from Freda Salvador (my go-to travel bag!) - code 15CONNI for 15% off
Shoe - Aeyde Uma ballet flats - I’ve had and loved these, for years. You may also be able to find them secondhand.
OUTFIT 2: Elevated Casual
Where am I wearing this? Meeting up with my girlfriends for lunch, a nicer weekend outing (wine tasting). Here is a lesson proportion. The top, is slightly cropped but hits at my narrow waist, this is a grounding point (it divides my body into thirds). My jeans fill out the lower 2/3 of my body, and that blend of 1/3 on top and 2/3 on bottom helps to elongate. I played with matching color in my shoes (cream) and bag (cream) with the top. Cohesion 101 - try to play with three or fewer colors and voila, it feels aligned.

OUTFIT 3: Elevated EVENING
Where am I wearing this? I’m definitely heading to dinner with the girls or date night. I love the sophistication of a waistcoat vest situation. This one happens to match the color of my denim (a happy accident) but you can also opt for a black vest or green vest and then bring in a black shoe. I’ve been loving these aubane low babies from sezane and pair them with almost every outfit lately, the mesh, the pop of red nails. Loving it.

OUTFIT 4: Work
Where am I wearing this? I’m either working from home (yes, this is what I wear, a full on outfit when I’m working from home), going to see a client, or heading into my studio. I’m using a casual fitted ribbed tank in a subtle pop of color and then using my blazer (printed) to add that element of interest and the shoe and bag are in colors that match my shirt (or colors from the blazer). More color cohesion. And trying to use a “color of 3” theory - that says when you aim for 3 colors in your outfit, it feels harmonious. I agree.
