How to Rock A Matching Two Piece Outfit

I'm about to go through my seasonal closet clean-out and at the same time trying to re-assess the pieces I want to keep in my rotation for the holidays.  That doesn't mean I won't be adding a few new pieces in there to kick it up a notch, though.  Who What Wear just recently collaborated with Target and any time a collaboration comes around, I always keep my eye on potential pieces.  This collab is great because Who What Wear is a great sartorial resource and the collaboration with Target means affordable pieces that can be great additions to your closet.

Why matching a teal floral pencil skirt and floral shirt work!

I have to tell you when I first put together the floral blouse and teal floral pencil skirt, I wasn't so sure how it'd turn out.  But you have to try new style ideas every now and again.  And sometimes they work and sometimes they totally fail.   Let's all admit, we've been victims to fashion before, am I right?!  Well, I have to say that I really, really like this combo.   Why?

1 | fit

Let's start with the fit.  The pencil skirt is a piece that you can work in a few different ways.  What works about this outfit is that I paired this fitted teal floral skirt that's, pencil length and style, with a loose blouse.   Pairing a fitted piece with a flowing piece works almost every time when it comes to outfit combos.  Think about the same thing working when you pair fitted skinny jeans with a loose top.   The juxtaposition of loose and fitted gives it balance!

2 | color + print

Moving on to the style (talking color and print).  Another reason that this outfit works is that the similar color and print on top and bottom give the illusion of length and it also looks like I'm wearing one full dress, right!?  That illusion is what creates length.  And what lady doesn't want to look a bit taller?!  (Well, maybe my sister, who is like 4 inches taller than me..but other than that...you know what I mean!)

3 | the right accessories

The finishing touches to the outfit include pulling together a chic bag and a great pair of heels.  I chose a matching bag from the Who What Wear collection but you could pair it with a great colorful bag or a nude/black bag too!  One of my favorite final touches are the heels.  These LS Revolution nude pumps (the shade is actually called mushroom and they're under $60 and super comfortable!) are the perfect way to add height and length.  The 3 inch (metallic) heel is the perfect height for me.  I'm a big fan of the cute zip back too!
